Instructor: Sheree Green
Day/Date: Sunday, April 24
Time: 2pm – 5pm
Fee: $70
Supplies: All materials for the class provided.
Fascinated by kinetic art? Learn the principles of creating flowing, graceful mobiles. You may be able to complete your mobile during the class, or might need to complete it at home. Unless you’d like to bring a stand of some kind with you to the class, it will be designed hanging from the ceiling. (If there are special materials you’d like to bring to incorporate into your mobile, please contact the instructor ahead of time.)
We’ll be using straight pieces of florist wire for the arms, and cut out fins with scissors from mat board, attaching them to the arms using hot glue. When painted with acrylic paint this will simulate the look of sheet metal, yet be much easier to work with. Being lightweight, the mobile will move easily with the slightest breeze.
Suggestions: 1) Look at images of mobiles in books or online to get ideas for fin shapes and overall design, and bring rough sketches if you’d like; 2) Prepare at least a temporary place to hang the mobile for when you bring it home, as they don’t store well lying in a box.
About the instructor:
Although it’s not been her main focus of artwork, over the past 58 years creating mobiles has been one of Sheree’s favorite art forms. She has helped many friends make mobiles in her home studios, and has taught six group classes through Sunbear.
